USD 286 Welcomes New Superintendent

Chautauqua County USD 286 is proud to welcome Mr. Jamie Wetig as our new Superintendent for the upcoming school year!
Mr. Wetig is a veteran educator entering his 27th year in public education. Born in Scott City, Kansas, and raised in small-town America, he brings a deep passion for serving rural communities and schools like ours.
He began his career in the classroom, teaching Social Studies for nine years before moving into leadership roles. Over the past 17 years, Mr. Wetig has held multiple administrative positions—including ten years as a building principal, one year as Director of Business & Finance, and six years as a district superintendent.
Throughout his career, Mr. Wetig has remained committed to one core mission:
"To make a positive difference in the lives of students."
His educational background includes a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education from Kansas State University, a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Emporia State University, and a Specialist in Education Degree in Professional Studies-Leadership from Fort Hays State University. His academic and professional experiences have equipped him with deep expertise in instruction, leadership, strategic planning, and school finance.
Outside of education, Mr. Wetig values family above all. He has been married to his high school sweetheart, Robin, for 28 years, and together they have three adult children. Skyler, Alec, and Brittany.
